Chunk Your Content
There’s a thing called ‘double readership path’. This is a ‘user experience’ essential and golden rule.
In this age of ‘instant’ and so much consumable info if your content is hard to read and follow, as in reams of text, it won’t get read… too hard.
Double readership path is the phenomenon of scanning a page, seeing if anything ‘pops’ out to grab your interest, and you then make a conscious decision to read it fully, or not.
The headline’s job is to do what? Get your attention!
There might be other headings, subheadings, bullet points, columns, and all should be set out to grab the readers attention.
Your prospective clients are looking for specific information and need to know in a flash whether they’re in the right place and you’re the one that can solve their problems or provide the service they need.
Know your visitor’s main goals and make sure you address them.
Another tip, with epic (long) content, make sure your paragraph sizes vary. From 1 liner to 3 to 5 lines of content in each, especially online.
Make powerful statements stand on their own, you could even bold them or make them a heading.
A rule in copy and formatting is to make it readable and understandable for a high school student and you’re safe.
Smart Actions:
1) Check your content
2) What changes can you make to make it more readable?
3) Have a play, have some fun
4) Work through page by page, post by post
4) What other ways can you deliver information in a more visual way?
PS: Here’s another way to help people stay on posts/pages longer, custom style pages.
