Get Your Profiles Set Up Right!
I hope you enjoyed yesterdays post on “leveraging your time by the power of 5”. Certainly a powerful concept and one that my clients and I enjoy.
Let’s get into getting your profiles set up right. You want to make sure that you get ALL your on-line social media profiles set up right so you’re getting the maximum benefit from them in the shortest time possible.
You can always update your profiles, well, most parts you can update but it can be very time consuming so the closer you have to “getting it right” from the get go the better.
We have at least 15 specific customisation tips and settings when we’re setting up and optimising our client’s social media accounts and profiles and up to 27 depending on the specific social media platform.
I’m going to share 5 straight up.
1 – Personalise your named URL.
Let’s use FaceBook as the example. Like this – http://www.facebook.com/peterbutler
Instead of some random set of impersonal digits.
To do this in FaceBook simply go to – http://www.facebook.com/username/
If your name is gone already, and a good chance it has use a variation of your name like:
- Add an underscore between your first and last name
- Use the word “the” in front of your name. I’ve done this with my LinkedIn account – http://www.linkedin.com/in/thepeterbutler
2 – Conversational Biography: Make sure you use a conversational and short biography about who you are and what you do.
Be professional but also personable with this, hey, people want to do business with people and they will do business with people they “connect” with.
3 – FaceBook Website Links: Make sure you have links back to your website in your FaceBook profile or info section too. So many people forget this basic way to “connect” and miss out on the back links benefits too.
4 – LinkedIn Website Links: In your LinkedIn profile, take the time to update your website links. You can edit what the links says so rather than it saying “My Website” it should read “Your Business Name”.
The benefits of this cannot be understated.
It’s called the “Anchor Text” and if you want your business to be known for “my website” then leave it as that otherwise change it to what you want to known for. Which most times is your business name or domain name. Make sense?
5 – Join a group or 3: In both FaceBook and LinkedIn join groups to see what others are up to. Become a student and see what others are doing to see how you can contribute, connect and leverage from this.
As I said earlier we have up to 27 specific customisation tips and settings we do for our clients but at least this gives you a head start.
Next up we’ll cover how you can get more social media friends and increase your circle of influence.
